Formerly known as, “Hotel Massacre” this attraction not only moved from
Marionette Park, IL, but also changed their name. Now located in the Odyssey Fun
World in Naperville, IL, Midnight Massacre has once again set out to establish
themselves as one of the fixtures in the Chicago haunt world.
The newly revamped attraction has taken on a lot of changes from last year.
Instead of a strict hotel-theme, it has taken more of a standard classic haunted
house format with some apocalyptical tones.
Using the laser tag arena on Odyssey’s second floor for their opening sequence,
oil drums are scattered about as special effect lighting cuts through the foggy
atmosphere. Actors attack sharply and then usually tail the group for a while,
forcing a few “walk faster” moments.
Following this same theme, we completed the first sequence of the house and were
led to a scene with a solider that had lost his mind. As he paced back and forth
babbling about not being able to take it anymore, he waved a prop that seemed to
resemble a sawed-off shotgun.
What happens next? Oh come now, if we told you that, you wouldn’t have a reason
to go see the show.
BUT, what we can tell you is that it happens quick and without warning. AND the
actor that performs it has perfect timing with the effect. So, make sure you
don’t blink, because you don’t want to miss this.
As we continued along our trail we managed to get harassed by clowns, lost in a
red and white circus tent maze, shocked a few times in some dark hallways, and
even almost lost a hand to a T-Rex that just happened to be lurking around.
If you are looking for a great evening itinerary, Midnight Massacre’s
frightening tour mixed with Odyssey Fun World’s vast selection of games makes
for a perfect night out this October!
