Rhode Island, the 13th of the 13 original colonies, holds an unusual and haunting past. Before colonization, the Native Americans and the Europeans tried to live together. Their cultures and trust failed to exist. The Native Americans and Europeans began to fight to the death. The result of the inter-twining of the two had a negative effect on the natives. Many of them succumb to the disease the Europeans brought over or died in the fights. During colonization, Roger Williams was banished from the Massachusetts Bay Colony for his religious views, settled in a site he called “Providence”. This place was declared to be a place of religious freedom. It was referred to as “Rogue’s Island”. Throughout history, religion was a factor in Rhode Island. In the early 1700’s Rhode Island placed civil restrictions on Catholics. This restriction lasted for 64 years and did not end until 1783 when a law was finally revoked. Although they claimed religious freedom, Catholics were banned from society. During the Revolutionary, battles were fought in Rhode Island. The British ruled the state and the colonists were persistent. However, the British continued its hold on the state until they abandoned Newport land left to support New York. Rhode Island was the last of the 13 Colonies to ratify the United States Constitution. They only did because they were threatened to have all their exports taxed as a foreign nation. Rhode Island was also very heavily involved in Slave Trade. This triangle trade market ran between 60-90% of the slave trade worldwide. Although Rhode Island had laws against slavery, they never enforced the law. After the Civil War, Rhode Island was hit hard by the Spanish Flu. This strain of influenza was deadly. One day, a seeming healthy person would get the flu, the next day the whole community would succumb to this virus. This strain was unlike any flu ever seen. Thousands died. Death carts roamed the streets to collect the dead. Mass graves were dug to bury the dead as quickly as possible. Hospitals were beyond capacity and the city was in mayhem. Bleeding from the ears, nose and skin was common, just as massive hemorrhaging and edema in the lungs. This was no ordinary flu; it was a mass killer of the healthy, middle aged; men, women and even the children. Just as mysteriously as it appeared, it vanished and left behind questions and chaos. Rhode Island Ports also took this flu and helped distribute it all over the world without the knowledge of how much of a pandemic this would actually become. The number left dead worldwide is staggering, the guess of 50-100 million perished. With all this sickness, came crime, murder, chaos, and purgatory on earth. From the suffering to the numerous violent battles, the souls left behind to complete missions, lost between life and death now roams Rhode Island. Rhode Island is well known in the haunt world for its portals of hell and the revengeful souls who live within its confines. The intense energy these souls expel, helps the living keep they at bay for the remainder of the year. Unfortunately, they must return to do their bidding as part of their mission in purgatory. Demons and messengers of the under-lord return to experiment and do research in their dungeons and chambers in the chill of the fall during the season of Halloween, under the spells of pure wickedness. Rhode Island is home to many haunted attractions that are well known in the haunt world. These haunted houses are well worth the trip. These attractions have been seen on many of the local television and radio stations, magazines and newspapers. Visit this haunted world of twisted and deranged: haunted houses, forests, trails, farms, mazes, hotels, asylums, prisons, castles, indoor and outdoor attractions.
