Once used as a theater, the University Chapel was a hospital during the Civil War. When the chapel was used by theater students, it was haunted by a ghost identified as Sydney Grimlett. When the thespians moved their operations across the street to the Telfair Peet Theater, Sydney followed. Sydney Grimlett, a confederate soldier, had his leg amputated before he died.
